Uttar Pradesh News: Following a distressing incident at a government hospital in Kolkata, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced comprehensive measures to protect women in the workplace.
State authorities have issued detailed guidelines, mandating all government and private institutions to prioritize the safety of female employees. Employers must ensure that women do not work beyond the stipulated hours and, if necessary, arrange for police vehicles (PRVs) to escort them home at night.
The new directives emphasize the importance of regular security audits and require institutions to provide separate, secure restrooms and toilets for women. Additionally, institutions must form internal complaints committees in line with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act-2013.
Deepak Kumar, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, has issued detailed instructions to prevent harassment and violence against women in the workplace. Employers are required to arrange reliable, monitored transport services, install CCTV cameras, access control systems, and deploy security personnel to monitor workplace premises. Additionally, all employees must be issued identity cards.
The police have been instructed to compile station-wise lists of call centres, health institutions, offices, business establishments, malls, cinema halls, hotels, railway stations, and bus stands, and ensure enhanced security arrangements, especially at night. Sensitive routes leading to these establishments have been identified, and UP 112 PRVs are to be stationed at these locations.
Furthermore, the government has mandated the clear display of emergency contact numbers and the availability of a designated officer around the clock. Visitor details must be meticulously recorded, and regular security audits must be conducted. Authorities have also stressed the need for strict action against those who commit violence or misconduct against women and other workers in health institutions.
