UP government establishes a 3-member committee to investigate the Lucknow building collapse incident.

In a press statement, it was announced that a three-member committee has been formed under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to investigate the building collapse in Lucknow, which claimed eight lives. The committee will be chaired by Sanjiv Gupta, a secretary in the Home Department. The other two members are Balkar Singh, Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning Department, and Vijay Kanaujia, Chief Engineer (Central Region) of the Public Works Department, Lucknow. 


The panel has been tasked with investigating the cause of the incident and submitting a report to the government as soon as possible.


The building, located in the Transport Nagar area of Lucknow, collapsed on Saturday evening, killing eight people and injuring 28 others. Rescue operations recovered three more bodies from the debris, bringing the total death toll to eight. Joint Commissioner of Police Amit Verma stated that it is unlikely anyone else remains trapped.


Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Lok Bandhu Hospital to meet the injured after returning from Ambedkar Nagar. In a post on X, he mentioned speaking with doctors to ensure proper treatment is being provided and expressed the government's commitment to standing by the victims and their families during this difficult time. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families affected and announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of the deceased, along with Rs 50,000 for the injured, according to a post by the Prime Minister’s Office on X.
